  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Gruyère cheese - 100 grams, grated
  • Butter - 20 grams
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Nutmeg - a pinch
  • Fresh parsley - for garnish

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes using a mandoline or a sharp knife.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Add the heavy cream to the saucepan, stirring well, then season with salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle half of the grated Gruyère cheese.
  6. Add the remaining potatoes on top, pour the rest of the cream mixture, and finish with the remaining cheese.
  7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.
  8. After 40 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  9. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving, garnished with freshly chopped parsley.
