- Potatoes - 400 grams
- Heavy cream - 200 milliliters
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Gruyère cheese - 100 grams, grated
- Butter - 20 grams
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Nutmeg - a pinch
- Fresh parsley - for garnish
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Peel and thinly slice the potatoes using a mandoline or a sharp knife.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add the heavy cream to the saucepan, stirring well, then season with salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle half of the grated Gruyère cheese.
- Add the remaining potatoes on top, pour the rest of the cream mixture, and finish with the remaining cheese.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.
- After 40 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it rest for a few minutes before serving, garnished with freshly chopped parsley.
