- Zucchini - 400 grams
- Onion - 1 medium (about 150 grams)
- Garlic - 2 cloves
- Heavy cream - 120 ml
- Grated Gruyère cheese - 100 grams
- Parmesan cheese - 30 grams
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Nutmeg - a pinch
- Fresh thyme - 1 teaspoon (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Wash and thinly slice the zucchini into rounds.
- Finely chop the onion and garlic.
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, sautéing until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the sliced zucchini to the skillet, cooking for another 5-7 minutes until slightly softened. Season with salt, black pepper, and nutmeg.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, half of the Gruyère cheese, and thyme. Stir well to combine.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the zucchini mixture, then pour half of the cream mixture over it.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining zucchini and cream mixture.
- Sprinkle the remaining Gruyère cheese and the grated Parmesan on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
