Ingredients

  • Mushrooms (button or shiitake) - 200 grams, chopped
  • Shallots - 2, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Butter - 30 grams
  • Heavy cream - 150 ml
  • Gruyère cheese - 100 grams, grated
  • Parmesan cheese - 30 grams, grated
  • Breadcrumbs - 30 grams
  • Fresh parsley - 1 tablespoon, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Nutmeg - a pinch

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
  2. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté the shallots and garlic until translucent.
  3. Add the chopped mushrooms to the skillet and cook until they release their moisture and start to brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the heavy cream, salt, black pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and mix in the grated Gruyère cheese and half of the Parmesan cheese until well combined.
  6. Transfer the mushroom mixture into two small gratin dishes or ramekins.
  7. In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, the remaining Parmesan cheese, and chopped parsley. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the mushroom filling in the gratin dishes.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
