- Carrots - 400 grams, peeled and sliced
- Heavy cream - 150 ml
- Grated Gruyère cheese - 100 grams
- Garlic - 1 clove, minced
- Butter - 20 grams, for greasing
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon
- Fresh parsley - 1 tablespoon, chopped (for garnish)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a small baking dish with butter.
- In a saucepan, bring water to a boil and add the sliced carrots. Cook for 5-7 minutes until just tender, then drain and set aside.
- In the same saucepan, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Heat gently until warmed through but not boiling.
- Layer half of the cooked carrots in the prepared baking dish, pour half of the cream mixture over them, and sprinkle with half of the grated Gruyère cheese.
- Repeat with the remaining carrots, cream mixture, and cheese to create a second layer.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before garnishing with chopped parsley. Serve warm.
