Ingredients

  • Eggs - 2 large
  • Granulated sugar - 100 grams
  • Milk - 250 ml
  • Heavy cream - 100 ml
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 20 grams
  • Butter - 20 grams (for greasing the dish)
  • Caramel sauce - for drizzling (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Grease a 20 cm tart pan with butter and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and granulated sugar until well combined.
  4. In a saucepan, heat the milk and heavy cream over medium heat until just simmering. Remove from heat.
  5. Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg and sugar mixture, whisking continuously to prevent curdling.
  6. Add the vanilla extract and cornstarch to the mixture, whisking until smooth.
  7. Pour the custard mixture into the prepared tart pan.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center still has a slight jiggle.
  9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
  10. Serve chilled, drizzled with caramel sauce if desired.
