- Eggs - 2 large
- Granulated sugar - 100 grams
- Milk - 250 ml
- Heavy cream - 100 ml
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Cornstarch - 20 grams
- Butter - 20 grams (for greasing the dish)
- Caramel sauce - for drizzling (optional)
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Grease a 20 cm tart pan with butter and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and granulated sugar until well combined.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk and heavy cream over medium heat until just simmering. Remove from heat.
- Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg and sugar mixture, whisking continuously to prevent curdling.
- Add the vanilla extract and cornstarch to the mixture, whisking until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture into the prepared tart pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center still has a slight jiggle.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
- Serve chilled, drizzled with caramel sauce if desired.
