- Cabbage - 300 grams
- Ground beef (or turkey) - 200 grams
- Onion - 1 medium, diced
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Bell pepper - 1, diced
- Tomato sauce - 200 grams
- Italian seasoning - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Cheddar cheese - 100 grams, shredded
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Remove the core from the cabbage and carefully separate the leaves. Blanch the leaves in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened, then drain and set aside.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and garlic, sautéing until translucent.
- Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet, cooking until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the diced bell pepper, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a baking dish, layer 2-3 cabbage leaves at the bottom. Spread half of the meat mixture over the leaves, then sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese on top.
- Repeat the layering with remaining cabbage leaves, meat mixture, and finish with the remaining cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
