Ingredients

  • Cabbage - 300 grams
  • Ground beef (or turkey) - 200 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, diced
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Bell pepper - 1, diced
  • Tomato sauce - 200 grams
  • Italian seasoning - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Cheddar cheese - 100 grams, shredded
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Remove the core from the cabbage and carefully separate the leaves. Blanch the leaves in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and garlic, sautéing until translucent.
  4. Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet, cooking until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  5. Stir in the diced bell pepper, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. In a baking dish, layer 2-3 cabbage leaves at the bottom. Spread half of the meat mixture over the leaves, then sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese on top.
  7. Repeat the layering with remaining cabbage leaves, meat mixture, and finish with the remaining cheese.
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  10. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
