Ingredients

  • Céleri rave (celery root) - 300 grams
  • Heavy cream - 100 ml
  • Grated Gruyère cheese - 100 grams
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Fresh thyme - 1 teaspoon, chopped
  • Nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Butter - 10 grams, for greasing

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Peel the céleri rave and slice it thinly using a mandoline or a sharp knife.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, chopped thyme, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper. Heat gently until warm but not boiling.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced céleri rave. Pour half of the cream mixture over the top, then sprinkle with half of the grated Gruyère cheese.
  5. Repeat with the remaining céleri rave, cream mixture, and finish with the remaining cheese on top.
  6. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling.
  8. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
