Ingredients
- Ground beef - 400 grams
- Mushrooms (cremini or button) - 200 grams, sliced
- Red onion - 1 medium, sliced
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Burgundy wine - 100 ml
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Fresh thyme - 1 teaspoon, chopped
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Romaine lettuce leaves - 4, for serving
- Avocado - 1 medium, sliced
- Mustard - 2 tablespoons, for serving
Steps
- In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes until they start to brown.
- Add the minced garlic, sliced red onion, and thyme to the skillet. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the onions are soft.
- Pour in the Burgundy wine and season with salt and black pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes, until the wine reduces and the mushrooms are well-coated. Remove from heat.
- While the mushrooms are cooking, form the ground beef into two patties, seasoning with salt and pepper on both sides.
- In a separate skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or until preferred doneness is reached.
- To assemble the burgers, place each patty on a romaine lettuce leaf, top with the Burgundy mushroom mixture, sliced avocado, and a smear of mustard. Serve immediately.
