Ingredients

  • Ground beef (kosher) - 300 grams
  • Brioche buns - 2 pieces
  • Gruyère cheese - 50 grams
  • Shallot - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Fresh thyme - 1 teaspoon, chopped
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Butter - 1 tablespoon
  • Mixed greens - 50 grams
  • Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
  • Cornichons - 4 pieces, sliced

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine the ground beef with chopped shallot, minced garlic, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until well combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about 2 cm thick.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium rare, or longer if desired.
  4. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Gruyère cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.
  5. While the burgers are cooking, butter the brioche buns and toast them in a separate pan until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing the cooked patty on the bottom half of the bun, adding a few slices of tomato, cornichons, and a handful of mixed greens. Top with the other half of the bun.
  7. Serve immediately with your choice of side, such as fries or a salad.
