Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Liquid smoke - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Whole grain burger buns - 2
  • Avocado - 1 medium, sliced
  • Lettuce - 2 leaves
  • Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
  • Red onion - 1/2, thinly sliced
  • Vegan mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into two thick slices.
  2. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, liquid smoke, garlic powder, smoked paprika, olive oil, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.
  3. Place the tofu slices in the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated tofu slices and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, until golden and slightly crispy.
  5. While the tofu is cooking, toast the whole grain burger buns in a separate pan or oven until lightly browned.
  6. Assemble the burgers by spreading vegan mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Add a slice of tofu, followed by lettuce, tomato, avocado, and red onion.
  7. Top with the other half of the bun, press gently, and serve immediately.
