- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Liquid smoke - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Whole grain burger buns - 2
- Avocado - 1 medium, sliced
- Lettuce - 2 leaves
- Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
- Red onion - 1/2, thinly sliced
- Vegan mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into two thick slices.
- In a bowl, mix soy sauce, liquid smoke, garlic powder, smoked paprika, olive oil, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.
- Place the tofu slices in the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated tofu slices and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, until golden and slightly crispy.
- While the tofu is cooking, toast the whole grain burger buns in a separate pan or oven until lightly browned.
- Assemble the burgers by spreading vegan mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Add a slice of tofu, followed by lettuce, tomato, avocado, and red onion.
- Top with the other half of the bun, press gently, and serve immediately.
