- All-purpose flour - 250 grams
- Active dry yeast - 7 grams
- Granulated sugar - 50 grams
- Salt - 5 grams
- Eggs - 2 large
- Whole milk - 100 ml, warm
- Unsalted butter - 75 grams, softened
- Sugar for topping - 30 grams
Steps
- In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, 50 grams of sugar, and salt.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the frothy yeast mixture and eggs. Mix until a dough begins to form.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Gradually incorporate the softened butter into the dough, kneading until fully absorbed and the dough is shiny, about 5 more minutes.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover with a cloth and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
- Sprinkle the tops generously with the remaining 30 grams of sugar.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
