Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Active dry yeast - 7 grams
  • Granulated sugar - 50 grams
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Eggs - 2 large
  • Whole milk - 100 ml, warm
  • Unsalted butter - 75 grams, softened
  • Sugar for topping - 30 grams

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, 50 grams of sugar, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the frothy yeast mixture and eggs. Mix until a dough begins to form.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Gradually incorporate the softened butter into the dough, kneading until fully absorbed and the dough is shiny, about 5 more minutes.
  6. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  7. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  8. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Cover with a cloth and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
  10. Sprinkle the tops generously with the remaining 30 grams of sugar.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  12. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
