Ingredients

  • lean ground beef - 250 grams
  • red wine - 60 ml
  • beef broth - 100 ml
  • carrot - 1 medium, diced
  • onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • thyme - 1 teaspoon, dried
  • bay leaf - 1
  • whole wheat burger buns - 2
  • arugula - 50 grams
  • olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • salt - to taste
  • black pepper - to taste
  • low-fat cheese - 2 slices (optional)

Steps

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent.
  2. Add the diced carrot, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Pour in the red wine and beef broth, bring to a simmer. Let it cook for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. In a bowl, combine the ground beef with the simmered mixture (remove the bay leaf) and shape into two burger patties.
  5. Grill or pan-fry the patties over medium-high heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
  6. While the burgers are cooking, you can toast the whole wheat burger buns on the grill or in the oven.
  7. Assemble the burgers by placing the patty on the bottom bun, adding a slice of cheese if desired, and topping with fresh arugula.
  8. Finish with the top bun, serve immediately, and enjoy your healthy Boeuf Bourguignon Burger.
