Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Olive oil - 10 ml
  • Maple syrup - 5 grams

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and maple syrup in warm water. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix the ingredients until a dough begins to form. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a baguette by rolling it out into a long, thin loaf.
  6. Place the shaped baguettes on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover them with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 220°C (428°F). Make a few diagonal slashes on the top of each baguette using a sharp knife.
  8. Bake the baguettes in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and crusty.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for about 10 minutes before slicing.
