Ingredients

  • Ground pork - 250 grams
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Soy sauce (or coconut aminos for Paleo) - 2 tablespoons
  • Star anise - 1 whole
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lettuce leaves (Butter or Romaine) - 4 large leaves
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Green onion - 1 tablespoon, chopped
  • Chili oil (optional) - 1 teaspoon

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground pork, minced garlic, minced ginger, soy sauce, star anise, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the pork mixture, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook for about 8-10 minutes or until browned and cooked through.
  3. Remove the star anise and discard. Stir in chopped cilantro and green onion, cooking for an additional 2 minutes.
  4. Prepare the lettuce leaves by rinsing them under cold water and patting them dry.
  5. To assemble, spoon the cooked pork mixture into the center of each lettuce leaf. Drizzle with chili oil if desired.
  6. Wrap the lettuce around the filling and enjoy as a Paleo-friendly burger.
