Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 150 grams
  • Golden syrup - 75 grams
  • Lye water - 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 50 grams
  • Red bean paste - 100 grams
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 30 milliliters

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, golden syrup, lye water, and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  3. Divide the red bean paste into two equal portions and shape them into balls.
  4. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  5. Divide the rested dough into two equal portions. Roll each piece into a flat disc large enough to wrap around the red bean ball.
  6. Place a red bean ball in the center of each dough disc and carefully fold the dough around it, sealing the edges. Roll gently to smooth out the shape.
  7. Place the filled mooncakes onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Lightly brush the tops with water and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before serving.
