Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 200 grams
- Shiitake mushrooms - 100 grams, sliced
- Oyster mushrooms - 100 grams, sliced
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 inch, minced
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Vegetable broth - 200 milliliters
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
- In a skillet or wok, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat and add the tofu cubes. Sauté until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and ginger, sautéing for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the sliced shiitake and oyster mushrooms, cooking for another 5 minutes until they soften.
- Stir in the soy sauce, vegetable broth, sugar, black pepper, and salt. Bring to a simmer.
- Return the tofu to the skillet, and gently stir to coat it in the sauce. Cover and let it braise for 10 minutes on low heat, allowing the flavors to meld.
- In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry. Stir this into the skillet to thicken the sauce and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Finish with a drizzle of sesame oil and sprinkle with chopped green onions before serving.
