Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Black tea leaves - 2 tablespoons
- Jasmine rice - 2 tablespoons
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Coriander - for garnish, optional
Steps
- Press the tofu for 30 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
- In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Marinate the tofu cubes in this mixture for at least 30 minutes.
- Prepare the smoking mixture by combining black tea leaves, jasmine rice, and brown sugar in a small bowl.
- Place a large wok or pot on the stove over medium heat. Once hot, add the smoking mixture to the bottom of the wok.
- Place a steaming rack or plate on top of the smoking mixture, ensuring it doesn’t touch the mixture directly. Arrange the marinated tofu cubes on the rack.
- Cover the wok tightly with a lid and allow the tofu to smoke for about 15-20 minutes. Make sure to keep the heat low to prevent burning the mixture.
- After smoking, carefully remove the tofu and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Serve the smoked tofu garnished with chopped green onions and coriander, if desired.
