Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Black tea leaves - 2 tablespoons
  • Jasmine rice - 2 tablespoons
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Coriander - for garnish, optional

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 30 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Marinate the tofu cubes in this mixture for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Prepare the smoking mixture by combining black tea leaves, jasmine rice, and brown sugar in a small bowl.
  4. Place a large wok or pot on the stove over medium heat. Once hot, add the smoking mixture to the bottom of the wok.
  5. Place a steaming rack or plate on top of the smoking mixture, ensuring it doesn’t touch the mixture directly. Arrange the marinated tofu cubes on the rack.
  6. Cover the wok tightly with a lid and allow the tofu to smoke for about 15-20 minutes. Make sure to keep the heat low to prevent burning the mixture.
  7. After smoking, carefully remove the tofu and let it cool for a few minutes.
  8. Serve the smoked tofu garnished with chopped green onions and coriander, if desired.
