Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 200 grams
- Active dry yeast - 5 grams
- Granulated sugar - 30 grams
- Plant-based milk (warm) - 100 ml
- Vegetable oil - 20 ml
- Salt - 1 gram
- Pineapple (fresh, crushed) - 100 grams
- Brown sugar - 20 grams
- Cornstarch - 10 grams
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Powdered sugar - 20 grams
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm plant-based milk, active dry yeast, and 10 grams of granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a separate bowl, mix together all-purpose flour, remaining granulated sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil to the flour mixture. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the pineapple filling. In a small saucepan, combine crushed pineapple, brown sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and knead it briefly. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces and flatten each piece into a disc.
- Place a spoonful of the cooled pineapple filling in the center of each disc, then fold the edges over to seal the filling inside. Shape each bun into a round ball.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let them rise for another 15 minutes.
- For the topping, mix together powdered sugar and a bit of water to create a paste. Brush this mixture on top of each bun.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
