Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Granulated sugar - 30 grams
  • Plant-based milk (warm) - 100 ml
  • Vegetable oil - 20 ml
  • Salt - 1 gram
  • Pineapple (fresh, crushed) - 100 grams
  • Brown sugar - 20 grams
  • Cornstarch - 10 grams
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar - 20 grams

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm plant-based milk, active dry yeast, and 10 grams of granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together all-purpose flour, remaining granulated sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil to the flour mixture. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  4. While the dough is rising, prepare the pineapple filling. In a small saucepan, combine crushed pineapple, brown sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and knead it briefly. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces and flatten each piece into a disc.
  6. Place a spoonful of the cooled pineapple filling in the center of each disc, then fold the edges over to seal the filling inside. Shape each bun into a round ball.
  7. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let them rise for another 15 minutes.
  8. For the topping, mix together powdered sugar and a bit of water to create a paste. Brush this mixture on top of each bun.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
