Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Cornstarch - 3 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil - 4 tablespoons (for frying)
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Green onion - 2 stalks, chopped
- Soy sauce - 4 tablespoons
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
- Sriracha - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Vegetable broth - 60 ml
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
- In a bowl, coat the tofu cubes with cornstarch evenly; this will help achieve a crispy texture when fried.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes in a single layer and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and sauté the minced garlic and ginger for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the chopped green onions and stir-fry for another minute.
- In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, sriracha, sesame oil, and vegetable broth. Pour this sauce into the skillet with the garlic, ginger, and green onions.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 3-5 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Add the crispy tofu back into the skillet, tossing it gently in the sauce to coat evenly. Cook for an additional 2 minutes.
