Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Cornstarch - 4 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil - 4 tablespoons
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Soy sauce - 4 tablespoons
- Maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Sriracha - 1 teaspoon
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Cooked rice - 200 grams, for serving
Steps
- Press the tofu for about 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
- In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu and fry until golden and crispy on all sides, about 10-12 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, and sriracha. Pour this sauce into the skillet and bring to a simmer.
- Return the crispy tofu to the skillet, tossing gently to coat in the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through and well combined.
- Serve the Vegan General Tso's over cooked rice, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
