Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Sugar - 10 grams
  • Salt - 2 grams
  • Olive oil - 15 ml
  • Tofu (firm) - 100 grams, crumbled
  • Green onions - 2, finely chopped
  • Carrot - 1 small, grated
  • Soy sauce - 15 ml
  • Sesame oil - 5 ml
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Cooking oil (for frying) - 200 ml

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt, then make a well in the center. Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  4. While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by heating a pan over medium heat. Add a splash of oil and sauté the garlic and ginger until fragrant.
  5. Add the crumbled tofu, grated carrot, green onions, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a small circle (about 10 cm in diameter).
  7. Place a tablespoon of the filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch to seal securely.
  8. Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Carefully place the buns in the oil and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
