Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 400 grams
- Soy sauce - 60 ml
- Maple syrup - 30 ml
- Rice vinegar - 15 ml
- Sesame oil - 15 ml
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
- Vegetable broth - 240 ml
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Red chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the marinade.
- Add the tofu cubes to the marinade and let them soak for at least 15 minutes.
- In a large skillet or wok, heat a little oil over medium heat and add the marinated tofu cubes, reserving the marinade.
- Sauté the tofu until golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes, then remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the vegetable broth and bring to a simmer.
- Mix cornstarch with a few tablespoons of water to create a slurry, then stir it into the simmering broth.
- Add the reserved marinade back into the skillet and stir well to combine, cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Return the tofu to the skillet, tossing to coat in the sauce, and let it braise for an additional 5-7 minutes.
- Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions, sesame seeds, and red chili flakes if desired.
