Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Canned black beans - 1 cup (240 grams), drained and rinsed
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Black sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Chopped green onions - 2 tablespoons
  • Red chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for at least 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1 cm cubes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil to create the marinade.
  3. Add the tofu cubes to the marinade, gently toss to coat, and let it marinate for 10 minutes.
  4. After marinating, sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu and toss gently to coat each piece evenly.
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated tofu cubes and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden and crispy.
  6. Once the tofu is cooked, add the black beans to the pan and stir gently to combine, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  7. Sprinkle black sesame seeds and chopped green onions on top, and add red chili flakes if using for extra spice.
  8. Serve hot as a main dish or over rice for a complete meal.
