- All-purpose flour - 250 grams
- Active dry yeast - 7 grams
- Sugar - 15 grams
- Warm water - 150 ml
- Salt - 5 grams
- Vegetable oil - 15 ml
- Jackfruit (canned, in water) - 200 grams
- Soy sauce - 30 ml
- Hoisin sauce - 30 grams
- Rice vinegar - 10 ml
- Five-spice powder - 5 grams
- Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
- Ginger (minced) - 1 teaspoon
- Green onions (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Sesame oil - 5 ml
Steps
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a separate bowl, mix the flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is ready, add it along with vegetable oil to the flour mixture.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Drain and rinse the jackfruit, then shred it using forks or your hands.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add garlic and ginger, sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Then add the shredded jackfruit, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, five-spice powder, and sesame oil. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the jackfruit is well coated and cooked through. Stir in chopped green onions.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten it into a circle about 10 cm in diameter.
- Place about 1-2 tablespoons of the jackfruit filling in the center of each circle. Gather the edges of the dough and pinch them together to seal the bun.
- Place the buns on parchment paper squares in a steamer basket, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Steam the buns for about 15 minutes until fluffy and cooked through. Serve warm.
