Ingredients

  • Gluten-free all-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • Warm water - 120 ml
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Sugar - 5 grams
  • Salt - 1 gram
  • Ground pork - 100 grams
  • Chopped napa cabbage - 50 grams
  • Green onions, finely chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Ginger, minced - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • White pepper - 1/4 teaspoon

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and sugar in warm water, and let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the gluten-free flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and knead until a soft dough forms.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare the filling by mixing the ground pork, chopped napa cabbage, green onions, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper in a bowl. Stir until well combined.
  5. After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a disc.
  6. Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each disc. Gather the edges of the dough and pinch them together to seal the bun.
  7. Place the buns on a piece of parchment paper in a steamer basket, ensuring they have space to expand.
  8. Steam the buns over boiling water for 15-20 minutes until they are fluffy and cooked through.
  9. Serve the Tianjin Goubuli Buns hot with a side of soy sauce for dipping.
