- Tempeh - 200 grams
- Soy sauce - 60 ml
- Maple syrup - 30 ml
- Rice vinegar - 15 ml
- Sesame oil - 10 ml
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Cornstarch - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 60 ml
- Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)
Steps
- Slice the tempeh into 1 cm thick rectangles and steam for 10 minutes to soften.
- In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, cornstarch, and water until well combined to create the teriyaki sauce.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little oil if desired. Once hot, add the steamed tempeh slices.
- Cook the tempeh for about 5 minutes on each side until golden brown and slightly crispy.
- Pour the teriyaki sauce over the tempeh in the skillet, stirring to coat evenly. Let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
