Ingredients

  • tempeh - 200 grams
  • soy sauce - 60 ml
  • maple syrup - 30 ml
  • rice vinegar - 15 ml
  • fresh ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • black sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • green onions - 2, chopped
  • cooking oil - 1 tablespoon (for grilling)

Steps

  1. Slice the tempeh into 1 cm thick slices.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil to create the marinade.
  3. Add the sliced tempeh to the marinade, making sure each piece is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat and lightly grease with cooking oil.
  5. Remove tempeh from the marinade and grill for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden brown and slightly charred.
  6. While grilling, brush with remaining marinade for extra flavor.
  7. Once cooked, remove from the grill and sprinkle with black sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables.
