Tangyuan are delightful glutinous rice balls filled with sweet or savory fillings, served in a warm syrup. This vegetarian version features a fragrant black sesame filling and is perfect for a comforting breakfast.

Ingredients
- Glutinous rice flour - 150 grams
- Water - 100 milliliters
- Black sesame seeds - 50 grams
- Sugar - 30 grams
- Peanut oil - 1 teaspoon
- Ginger - 1 small piece, grated
- Brown sugar - 50 grams
- Coconut milk - 200 milliliters
Steps
- In a dry skillet, toast the black sesame seeds over medium heat until fragrant, about 3-4 minutes. Allow to cool.
- In a food processor, blend the toasted black sesame seeds with sugar and peanut oil until a smooth paste forms. Set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine glutinous rice flour with water gradually, mixing until a smooth dough forms. Adjust water as necessary.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Flatten each piece into a disc, place about a teaspoon of the black sesame filling in the center, and carefully seal the dough around the filling, rolling it into a ball.
- Bring a pot of water to a boil. Gently drop the tangyuan into the boiling water and cook for about 10 minutes or until they float to the surface.
- In a separate saucepan, combine coconut milk, grated ginger, and brown sugar. Heat over low until the sugar dissolves, stirring occasionally.
- Once the tangyuan are cooked, remove them from the pot and transfer to serving bowls. Pour the warm coconut ginger syrup over the tangyuan and serve immediately.
