Ingredients

  • White fish fillets (e.g., cod) - 300 grams
  • Corn tortillas - 4 pieces
  • Cooked jasmine rice - 200 grams
  • Szechuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili flakes - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 2 tablespoons
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Honey - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Spring onions - 2, chopped
  • Cilantro - a handful, chopped
  • Lime - 1, cut into wedges
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Prepare the fish by patting it dry and cutting it into strips. Season with salt and black pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Marinate the fish strips in this mixture for 10 minutes.
  3. In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast the Szechuan peppercorns and chili flakes until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Heat sesame oil in the skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated fish strips and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until crispy and cooked through.
  5. While the fish is cooking, reheat the cooked jasmine rice, fluffing it with a fork. Stir in the toasted Szechuan spices and half of the chopped spring onions.
  6. Warm the corn tortillas in a separate skillet for about 30 seconds on each side.
  7. Assemble the tacos by placing a few strips of the spicy fish on each tortilla. Top with the remaining chopped spring onions, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime juice.
  8. Serve the tacos with a side of the flavored jasmine rice and lime wedges.
