Ingredients

  • White fish fillet (e.g., cod or tilapia) - 300 grams
  • Corn tortillas - 4 pieces
  • Szechuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Cabbage (green or red) - 100 grams, shredded
  • Carrot - 1 medium, julienned
  • Cilantro - a handful, chopped
  • Lime - 1, juiced
  • Salt - to taste

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine chili oil, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and Szechuan peppercorns to create a marinade.
  2. Cut the fish fillet into bite-sized pieces and add to the marinade. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. While the fish is marinating, prepare the slaw by mixing the shredded cabbage, julienned carrot, chopped green onions, and cilantro in a separate bowl. Add lime juice and salt to taste, then toss well.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated fish pieces and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the fish is cooked through and golden brown.
  5. Warm the corn tortillas in a dry skillet for about 30 seconds on each side or until pliable.
  6. To assemble the tacos, place a portion of the cooked fish on each tortilla, top with the slaw, and garnish with additional cilantro if desired.
  7. Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.
