Ingredients

  • Boneless skinless chicken breast - 250 grams, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Broccoli florets - 150 grams
  • Soy sauce (Kosher) - 3 tablespoons
  • Szechuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Green onions - 2, chopped for garnish
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Rice (cooked) - 1 cup, for serving

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, cornstarch, garlic, ginger, and red chili flakes to create a marinade. Add the chicken pieces and let marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. While the chicken is marinating, steam the broccoli florets in a separate pot for about 5 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the Szechuan peppercorns and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the marinated chicken to the skillet and stir-fry for 5-7 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and lightly browned.
  5. Add the steamed broccoli to the skillet, stirring to combine and heat through for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  6. Drizzle the sesame oil over the chicken and broccoli mixture, tossing to coat evenly.
  7. Serve hot over cooked rice, garnished with chopped green onions.
