Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Szechuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
- Chili oil - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
- Soy sauce (low sodium) - 2 tablespoons
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Cilantro - for garnish
Steps
- Press the tofu for about 15 minutes to remove excess moisture and then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
- In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of chili oil over medium heat. Add the tofu cubes and fry until they are golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove tofu from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of chili oil, Szechuan peppercorns, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper to the pan. Stir well to combine.
- Return the fried tofu to the pan and toss in the sauce until fully coated. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the tofu to absorb the flavors.
- Remove from heat and garnish with chopped green onions and cilantro before serving.
