Ingredients
- Halal ground beef - 300 grams
- Szechuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Oyster sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Burger buns - 2
- Lettuce leaves - 2
- Tomato - 1, sliced
- Cucumber - 1, sliced
- Mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons
- Chili sauce - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a dry skillet, toast the Szechuan peppercorns over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until fragrant, then grind them into a powder using a mortar and pestle or spice grinder.
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, salt, black pepper, and ground Szechuan peppercorns. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.
- Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 1.5 cm thick.
- Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- While the patties are cooking, prepare the burger buns by toasting them lightly on the skillet or grill.
- Assemble the burgers by spreading mayonnaise on the bottom bun, followed by a lettuce leaf, the cooked beef patty, a slice of tomato, and cucumber slices. Drizzle chili sauce on top and close with the top bun.
- Serve immediately with your favorite side dish.
