Ingredients

  • Halal ground beef - 300 grams
  • Szechuan peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Oyster sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Lettuce leaves - 2
  • Tomato - 1, sliced
  • Cucumber - 1, sliced
  • Mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons
  • Chili sauce - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a dry skillet, toast the Szechuan peppercorns over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until fragrant, then grind them into a powder using a mortar and pestle or spice grinder.
  2. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, salt, black pepper, and ground Szechuan peppercorns. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.
  3. Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 1.5 cm thick.
  4. Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  5. While the patties are cooking, prepare the burger buns by toasting them lightly on the skillet or grill.
  6. Assemble the burgers by spreading mayonnaise on the bottom bun, followed by a lettuce leaf, the cooked beef patty, a slice of tomato, and cucumber slices. Drizzle chili sauce on top and close with the top bun.
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite side dish.
