Ingredients

  • Jasmine rice - 150 grams
  • Water - 300 milliliters
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Honey or maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Carrot - 1 medium, diced
  • Green peas - 75 grams
  • Spring onion - 2, chopped
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. In a pot, combine the rinsed rice and 300 milliliters of water. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
  4. While the rice is cooking, heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add the sesame oil.
  5. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. Add diced carrots and green peas to the skillet, stirring occasionally, and cook for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  7. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce and honey or maple syrup until well combined.
  8. Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and add it to the skillet with the vegetables.
  9. Pour the soy sauce mixture over the rice and vegetables, and stir gently to combine everything evenly.
  10. Season with salt and black pepper to taste, and cook for an additional 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  11. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped spring onions and sesame seeds before serving.
