Ingredients
- Jasmine rice - 150 grams
- Water - 300 milliliters
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Honey or maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Carrot - 1 medium, diced
- Green peas - 75 grams
- Spring onion - 2, chopped
- Garlic - 1 clove, minced
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)
Steps
- Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
- In a pot, combine the rinsed rice and 300 milliliters of water. Bring to a boil over high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
- While the rice is cooking, heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add the sesame oil.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add diced carrots and green peas to the skillet, stirring occasionally, and cook for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
- In a small bowl, mix soy sauce and honey or maple syrup until well combined.
- Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and add it to the skillet with the vegetables.
- Pour the soy sauce mixture over the rice and vegetables, and stir gently to combine everything evenly.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste, and cook for an additional 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Remove from heat and garnish with chopped spring onions and sesame seeds before serving.
