Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 60 ml
  • Brown sugar - 2 tablespoons (30 grams)
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon (15 ml)
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon (15 ml)
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons (15 grams)
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Press the firm tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1.5 cm cubes.
  2. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the marinade.
  3. Add the tofu cubes to the marinade and let it sit for 10 minutes, occasionally stirring to ensure even coating.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add the marinated tofu cubes, reserving the marinade for later.
  5. Cook the tofu for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally until golden brown on all sides.
  6. Sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu and stir gently to coat, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until slightly crispy.
  7. Pour the reserved marinade over the tofu and simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  8. Remove from heat, garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, and serve warm.
