Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • sugar - 30 grams
  • water - 150 ml (warm)
  • vegetable oil - 15 grams
  • red bean paste - 100 grams
  • salt - 1 gram

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add all-purpose flour, salt, and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and knead for a minute. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces.
  6. Flatten each piece of dough into a circle, about 10 cm in diameter. Place a tablespoon of red bean paste in the center of each circle.
  7. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch to seal, forming a bun.
  8. Place the buns on parchment paper squares in a steamer. Cover and let them rise for another 15 minutes.
  9. Steam the buns over boiling water for 15 minutes until fluffy and cooked through.
  10. Remove the buns from the steamer and let them cool slightly before serving.
