Ingredients

  • Sweet potato - 300 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Green onion - 2 stalks, finely chopped
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Bread crumbs - 4 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Steamed buns - 2 pieces
  • Cucumber - 1/2, thinly sliced
  • Cilantro - a handful, for garnish

Steps

  1. Peel and chop the sweet potato into small cubes, then steam them for about 15 minutes until tender.
  2. In a mixing bowl, mash the steamed sweet potato with a fork until smooth.
  3. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, bread crumbs, salt, and black pepper to the mashed sweet potato. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
  4. Form the mixture into two equal-sized patties.
  5. In a non-stick pan, heat a little oil over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. While the patties are cooking, steam the buns for about 5 minutes until warm and soft.
  7. To assemble the burgers, place each sweet potato patty inside a steamed bun, top with sliced cucumber and garnish with fresh cilantro.
