- Sweet potato - 200 grams
- All-purpose flour - 150 grams
- Active dry yeast - 5 grams
- Sugar - 10 grams
- Salt - 3 grams
- Water - 100 ml
- Vegetable oil - 15 ml
- Green onions - 2 stalks, finely chopped
- Soy sauce - 10 ml
- Garlic - 1 clove, minced
- Ground ginger - 1/2 teaspoon
- Lettuce leaves - 2 leaves
Steps
- Peel and cut the sweet potato into cubes, then steam or boil until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash until smooth.
- In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a separate large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes in a warm area.
- In the meantime, prepare the filling by mixing the mashed sweet potato, chopped green onions, soy sauce, minced garlic, and ground ginger in a bowl.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it into a disc.
- Place a spoonful of the sweet potato filling in the center of each disc, then fold the edges over to seal. Shape into a bun and place on a parchment-lined steamer basket.
- Steam the buns for about 15 minutes until fluffy and cooked through. Serve warm with lettuce leaves.
