Ingredients
- Glutinous rice flour - 100 grams
- Water - 150 ml
- Sugar - 30 grams
- Osmanthus flower (dried) - 2 teaspoons
- Coconut milk - 50 ml
- Salt - a pinch
- Vegetable oil - for greasing
Steps
- In a small bowl, soak the dried osmanthus flowers in 50 ml of warm water for about 15 minutes to rehydrate.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour, sugar, and a pinch of salt.
- Add the soaked osmanthus flowers (with the soaking water) and coconut milk to the dry ingredients, and mix until a smooth batter forms.
- Grease a small steaming dish or heatproof plate with vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
- Pour the batter into the greased dish, smoothing out the surface with a spatula.
- Fill a steamer pot with water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, place the dish into the steamer, cover, and steam for 30 minutes.
- After 30 minutes, check the rice cake for doneness by inserting a toothpick; it should come out clean. If needed, steam for an additional 5-10 minutes.
- Once cooked, remove the dish from the steamer and let it cool to room temperature before slicing into squares.
- Serve the sweet osmanthus rice cake at room temperature or chilled, garnished with additional osmanthus flowers if desired.
