Ingredients

  • Chicken wings - 500 grams
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons (for frying)
  • Red bell pepper - 1/2, diced
  • Pineapple chunks - 100 grams (canned or fresh)
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Brown sugar - 2 tablespoons
  • Ketchup - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 1/4 cup

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the chicken wings with cornstarch, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken wings and fry for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally until golden brown.
  4. Transfer the fried wings to a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake in the oven for 20 minutes, until crispy and cooked through.
  5. While the wings are baking, prepare the sweet and sour sauce. In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  6. Add the diced red bell pepper and pineapple chunks to the sauce, and let it simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  7. Once the chicken wings are done baking, toss them in the sweet and sour sauce until fully coated.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve immediately.
