Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
  • Snow peas - 100 grams, trimmed
  • Carrot - 1 medium, julienned
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Vegetable broth - 100 ml
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
  • Green onions - 2, sliced for garnish
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon for garnish

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into thick strips to resemble squid.
  2. Toss the tofu strips in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large non-stick pan or wok over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the coated tofu strips to the pan and fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same pan, add garlic and ginger, sautéing for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Add the bell pepper, snow peas, and carrot to the pan, stir-frying for about 3-4 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, vegetable broth, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and chili flakes.
  8. Return the crispy tofu to the pan and pour the sauce over the vegetables and tofu. Stir well to combine, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  9. Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
