Ingredients

  • glutinous rice - 150 grams
  • coconut milk - 200 ml
  • sugar - 40 grams
  • salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • ripe mango - 1 medium
  • sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (optional)
  • water - 300 ml

Steps

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer basket lined with cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel.
  3. Steam the rice over boiling water for about 25-30 minutes, or until the grains are translucent and tender.
  4. While the rice is steaming, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved, then remove from heat.
  5. Once the rice is done steaming, transfer it to a large bowl and pour about 150 ml of the coconut milk mixture over it. Mix well and let it sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  6. Peel and slice the ripe mango into thin strips.
  7. To serve, place a portion of the sticky rice on a plate, drizzle with the remaining coconut milk mixture, and arrange the mango slices on the side. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
