Ingredients

  • Sticky rice - 200 grams
  • Ground chicken - 100 grams
  • Dried shiitake mushrooms - 30 grams
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Water - 400 ml
  • Banana leaves or parchment paper - for wrapping

Steps

  1. Soak the sticky rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Rehydrate the dried shiitake mushrooms in warm water for about 30 minutes, then chop them finely.
  3. In a skillet, heat sesame oil over medium heat and add ground chicken, cooking until browned.
  4. Add the chopped shiitake mushrooms, green onions, soy sauce, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Cook for another 5 minutes until everything is well combined and cooked through.
  5. Drain the soaked sticky rice and mix it with the cooked chicken filling in a bowl.
  6. Prepare the banana leaves or parchment paper by cutting them into squares, approximately 20x20 cm each.
  7. Place a portion of the sticky rice mixture in the center of each leaf/paper square, then fold and wrap securely to create a dumpling.
  8. Steam the dumplings in a steamer over boiling water for about 45 minutes.
  9. Once cooked, unwrap the dumplings and serve warm with soy sauce or chili sauce for dipping.
