Ingredients

  • Jasmine rice - 150 grams
  • Water - 300 milliliters
  • White fish fillets (e.g., cod or tilapia) - 200 grams
  • Fresh ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Scallions - 2, chopped
  • Soy sauce (low sodium) - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Lemon slices - 2, for garnish

Steps

  1. Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then drain.
  2. In a pot, combine the rinsed rice and 300 milliliters of water. Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce the heat to low. Cook for about 15 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.
  3. While the rice is cooking, prepare the fish. In a mixing bowl, combine the fish fillets with grated ginger, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes.
  4. Prepare a steamer or a heatproof plate placed over a pot of simmering water. Arrange the marinated fish fillets in the steamer and sprinkle chopped scallions on top.
  5. Steam the fish for about 8-10 minutes, or until cooked through and flaky.
  6. Once the rice is done, fluff it with a fork and serve it on plates. Place the steamed fish on top of the rice and garnish with lemon slices.
