Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Granulated sugar - 10 grams
  • Warm water (about 40°C) - 150 ml
  • Pork shoulder, ground - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 15 ml
  • Sesame oil - 10 ml
  • Ginger, minced - 5 grams
  • Garlic, minced - 5 grams
  • Green onion, finely chopped - 10 grams
  • Salt - 3 grams
  • Pepper - 1 gram

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and a pinch of salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
  4. In another bowl, mix the ground pork, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, green onion, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  5. After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle about 10 cm in diameter.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the pork filling in the center of each dough circle. Gather the edges of the dough and pinch them together to seal the bun.
  7. Place the buns on parchment paper squares and let them rest for another 10 minutes.
  8. While the buns are resting, prepare a steamer. Bring water to a boil in the steamer pot.
  9. Carefully place the buns in the steamer, ensuring they are not touching. Cover and steam for 15-20 minutes until fluffy and cooked through.
  10. Serve warm, and enjoy your Steamed Pork Buns!
