Ingredients

  • Lotus root - 200 grams
  • Fresh ginger - 10 grams

  • Coconut aminos - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili flakes - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons (for garnish)
  • Water - 500 milliliters

Steps

  1. Peel the lotus root and slice it into thin rounds (about 0.5 cm thick).
  2. Rinse the sliced lotus root under cold water to remove excess starch.
  3. Prepare a steamer or a pot with a steaming basket and fill it with 500 milliliters of water. Bring the water to a boil.
  4. While the water is heating, finely chop the ginger and garlic.
  5. Once the water is boiling, place the lotus root slices in the steaming basket and steam for about 15 minutes until tender.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the coconut aminos, sesame oil, chopped ginger, garlic, and chili flakes to create a sauce.
  7. After steaming, transfer the lotus root to a serving plate and drizzle the sauce over the top.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
