Ingredients
- White fish fillet (e.g., tilapia or cod) - 250 grams
- Lemon - 1 medium (zested and juiced)
- Fresh ginger - 1 inch, sliced thinly
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Soy sauce (halal) - 2 tablespoons
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Spring onions - 2, chopped
- Coriander (cilantro) - a handful, for garnish
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
Steps
- Rinse the fish fillet under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix the lemon juice, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, ginger slices, black pepper, and salt to create a marinade.
- Place the fish fillet in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over it, ensuring it is evenly coated. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes.
- While the fish is marinating, prepare a steamer (or use a bamboo steamer) and bring water to a boil.
- Once the fish is marinated, place it on a heatproof plate and sprinkle the lemon zest and chopped spring onions on top.
- Carefully place the plate in the steamer and cover it. Steam the fish for about 8-10 minutes, or until it is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Once cooked, remove the plate from the steamer and garnish with fresh coriander before serving.
