Ingredients
- White fish fillets (e.g., tilapia or cod) - 300 grams
- Fresh ginger - 20 grams, thinly sliced
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Spring onions - 2, chopped
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Chili oil - 1 tablespoon
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Fresh cilantro - for garnish
Steps
- Prepare a steamer by filling the bottom pot with water and bringing it to a gentle boil.
- Place the fish fillets on a heatproof plate that fits in the steamer, and sprinkle with salt and half of the ginger slices.
- Once the water is boiling, place the plate with the fish in the steamer and cover. Steam the fish for about 10-12 minutes, or until it is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- While the fish is steaming, prepare the chili sauce by heating the chili oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and remaining ginger slices, and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sugar to the pan. Stir well and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Once the fish is cooked, carefully remove it from the steamer and pour the chili sauce over the top.
- Garnish with chopped spring onions and fresh cilantro before serving.
