Ingredients

  • Fresh crab - 500 grams
  • Chinese rice wine (Shaoxing wine) - 60 ml
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 inch, sliced thinly
  • Spring onions - 2, chopped
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Water - 1 liter

Steps

  1. Clean the fresh crab thoroughly under cold running water and remove the gills and stomach.
  2. In a bowl, mix the rice wine, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, sliced ginger, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Place the cleaned crab in a large heatproof plate and pour the marinade over it, ensuring the crab is well-coated.
  4. Add the chopped spring onions on top of the crab.
  5. Prepare a steamer and bring 1 liter of water to a boil.
  6. Place the plate with the marinated crab in the steamer and cover it with a lid.
  7. Steam the crab for 20 minutes or until the shells turn bright orange and the meat is opaque.
  8. Remove the crab from the steamer and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
  9. Serve the steamed crab hot, garnished with additional spring onions if desired.
