Ingredients
- Live crab - 500 grams
- Jasmine rice - 150 grams
- Water - 300 ml for rice, plus additional for steaming
- Ginger - 10 grams, sliced
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Soy sauce - 30 ml
- Sesame oil - 10 ml
- Spring onion - 1 stalk, chopped
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
Steps
- Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 20 minutes.
- In a pot, combine the soaked rice with 300 ml of water and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce to low heat, cover, and simmer for 15-18 minutes until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed.
- While the rice is cooking, prepare the crab. Clean the crab under cold running water and place it in a steamer basket.
- In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the crab, ensuring it is well coated.
- In a pot or wok, bring water to a boil, then place the steamer basket with the crab over the boiling water. Cover and steam for about 15-20 minutes or until the crab turns bright orange and is cooked through.
- Once the rice is done, fluff it with a fork and divide it between two plates. Place the steamed crab on top of the rice.
- Garnish with chopped spring onion and serve immediately.
